MOB Beauty - Bringing Sustainability to Indie Beauty
MOB Beauty x Beautylish Launch Collection
I first became aware of MOB Beauty in May of this year, thanks to an article published by Beautylish entitled, Meet the Brand Committed to People, Animals & the Planet. I was immediately intrigued by their focus on creating “makeup for a better world”, through their cruelty-free, vegan, clean and sustainable products.
As an indie beauty fan and conscious consumer, I am thrilled to see a brand committed to creating refillable, recyclable, & compostable packaging. It's encouraging to see a brand take initiatives towards reducing the amount of waste the beauty industry contributes to our world, much of which can end up in our oceans or landfills.
I was drawn to their modular packaging, which allows you to refill, reuse and fully customize. I also really appreciated the brand’s mission to develop truly innovative formulas for all its products. This combination of sustainability and innovation is why MOB Beauty made my “Brands I Want to Try in 2022” list.
Clean Beauty Concerns
Although I was excited to try this new brand, I did have some concerns about some statements I read in the Beautylish article. For instance, one of their founders, Alisha Gallagher, stated, “We leave out any ingredient that we know or is perceived to have any negative health impact or harm – even if there’s a perception or if we don’t fully know yet.”
As you know, I have strong opinions about the misinformation and fearmongering occurring in “clean beauty” marketing and advertising, especially the false demonizing of many ingredients.
Because of this, I do believe brands have a responsibility to educate consumers on the truth about ingredients. I also believe brands should use science and accurate data to dispel myths about ingredients.
They should not contribute to misperceptions or include ingredients in their “no” list that have been deemed safe or would never be used in beauty products. Nor should misperceptions be a driving force around product formulation or the creation of advertising/marketing simply because a brand wants to sell more products.
My hope is that MOB Beauty is doing what is best for their consumers and the planet based on facts and science. Regardless, of the statement above, I still opted to try this new indie beauty brand and today I’m sharing my thoughts and experiences.
The MOB Beauty x Beautylish Collection
When Beautylish launched their MOB pop-up shop, I picked up the Essentials Set: Soft. This collection included:
A Refillable Palette to be filled with:
Cream Clay Blush(M73): Rose mauve with a matte finish
Highlight (M49): Pink champagne with a shimmer finish
Four Eyeshadows:
M28: Violet brown with a matte finish
M33: Guava with a matte finish
M6: Peachy beige with a matte finish
M46: Rose gold with a shimmer finish
A Refillable RePurpose Lip Capsule to be filled with:
Cream Lipstick in M3: Caramel pink with a creamy finish
A Refillable RePurpose Mascara Capsule to be filled with:
Mascara in M66: Black
This collection was designed for the neutral makeup lover. As someone who is more into color, I still appreciate a good neutral collection, and this one fits the bill. One of my favorite things about the Soft Set is how well it is curated. All the colors truly complement each other.
As I mention in my TikTok below, I do wish there was a greater differentiation between the Rose Gold and the Peachy Beige. On my pale skin tone, they look very similar. I also wish I could have chosen a more intense or deeper lip color, but this is more of a personal preference. Regardless, I love how comfortable the lipstick feels on my lips. It is very hydrating and long-lasting.
For me, the stand-out products are the mascara and the highlight and blush. As someone with long lashes, I always look for a mascara that increases volume, and this Mob Beauty mascara does to perfection. The formula is perfection. It makes my lashes look more intense, without feeling heavy, and without out flaking off throughout wear. I will be repurchasing a mascara refill once this one is empty.
The highlight and blush in this collection are so flattering. They truly complement each other and have this luminescent appearance on the skin. They are easy to apply and blend, and can be built up to increase intensity.
My only complaint with this collection, besides some personal color preferences, involves the palette. Because the blush is a cream formulation, and there is no cover for it, I do find the powder highlighter and eyeshadows tend to stick to it.
The Essentials Soft Set Look
If it’s not apparent by now, I have quickly become a fan of MOB Beauty’s formulations and packaging. I look forward to trying more of their products, including their bronzer and cake liner, in different color combinations, as well as re-customizing my palette soon. They recently expanded their eyeshadow options to include Cream Clay Shadows in more colorful options.
You can find MOB Beauty on their own website, as well as Beautylish and Credo Beauty.
