The Benefits of Brainstorming for Your Beauty Brand

Feeling stuck? Too many ideas, but not enough direction? Don’t know where to start? Need a little spark of creativity? This is why brainstorming is so beneficial for your brand. It can help you break through all the noise in your brain and provide you with ideas, strategies, and a plan of action for making your next launch, sale, or event a success.

It’s an essential part of the advertising and copywriting process, and it’s one of my favorite things about being a copywriter. I love coming up with ideas and solving creative problems for my business and for my clients.

The Benefits of Brainstorming

Let’s dive into why brainstorming should be an essential part of your brand’s advertising strategy:

  1. It helps you get clear on your goals, desires, or strategy for your brand, project, or new launch.

You have to know where you are going before you get there. Would you drive somewhere new without putting the address in the GPS to find the best route or to avoid traffic? This is why starting every new project with a brainstorming session or sessions matters. It gives you a place to start and lets you map out a plan for execution.

  2. It lets you tap into your creativity, so you can generate as many ideas/tactics, or solutions without judgment or second-guessing yourself.

In advertising, this is also known as throwing everything at the wall. A brainstorming session should be a judgment-free zone. There is no need for you or your team to second-guess yourselves. I always go into each session with the mindset of no idea is a bad one. It allows my mind to be free to go off in different directions and ask what if… This is especially important in the initial session. You can reserve other sessions for reviewing ideas, weeding out the ones that won’t work or you don’t like, and figuring out your next plan of action.

  3. Encourages collaboration and makes room for different perspectives, which can only benefit your ideation and problem-solving.

We all know the saying, “Two heads are better than one.” This is another benefit of brainstorming for your beauty brand. Having different perspectives, based on age, experience, gender, skillset, etc., can only make your ideas stronger and provide you with problem-solving options you might not have come up with alone. It also gives you access to a variety of expertise and knowledge, which can help you create a more effective plan of execution for your next campaign, launch, event, etc. A collaborative environment can also ensure you are staying on brand, on messaging, and keeping your target audience in mind.

  4. Forces you, in a good way, to sit down and focus on a specific task or goal.

With all the distractions we have in our lives, it can be easy to lose sight of what you’re trying to accomplish. When you hold or host a brainstorming session, you are forced to sit in a room or online and focus on the task at hand. I recommend turning notifications off and asking your team to come prepared with research, any ideas they might have, and any relevant information related to the project you will be working on.

During my ad agency days, I used to love getting in a room with my team and focusing solely on coming up with ideas and problem-solving for our clients. Now I love working with my clients either online or in-person, doing the same thing.

Spark Your Momentum

If you find yourself struggling to turn off the distractions, focus on your project goals, or need help generating ideas, consider taking it to the brainstorming room, wherever that may be for your brand. You’ll be surprised at how a session focused on generating ideas will spark momentum. You’ll be better able to determine the best strategy, idea, and/or tactic to make your next campaign a success.

Brainstorming sessions can also be used to problem solve, determine your target market, develop your brand voice and messaging, and decide who you are and want to be to your audience. Building a brand is more than pretty packaging and a beautifully designed website. It’s about creating something that speaks to your audience and keeps them coming back for more because they see themselves in your brand and know your values are aligned.

With a growing trend of rage bait marketing or controversy for the sake of controversy, it’s more important than ever for you to spend time thinking about how you want to grow your brand and what type of relationship you want to build with your audience. Brand awareness is great, but not if it doesn’t translate into sales.
